Google Contacts For Every Android Device 6.0+
Android device owners who try to use the Google Contacts app on their mobile device are probably aware of the limitations of the app.
This includes shortcomings like lack of support for switching between accounts quickly and easily like so many other Google apps and some missing features compared to the web interface.
Google is addressing some of those concerns with a new update that takes Google Contacts and includes new features and changes to the interface.
The first change that users will likely notice is the change to the two tabs that previously graced the app.
Until now, Google Contacts only included tabs for Favorites and All.
These choices have been moved to the hamburger menu that slides out from the left and adds several new options including Duplicates, the ability to filter by labels, and the ability to select certain accounts to view the contacts included therein.
In addition to now having access to labels, which have been present on the web version, users can also create and manage their labels from within the Android app.
Google is bringing their duplicate contacts management tools to the Contacts Android app as well with this update.
Users could merge contacts using the app in the past, but it involved a long series of steps to find, merge and confirm everything.
The new Duplicates tool functions more like the web version where duplicate contacts will be automatically detected and users can just merge them or leave them as is.
The function will also work across all synced accounts.
A more minor change to the interface includes the relocation of the settings options to the slide out menu instead of through the overflow menu.
